Never Say Never

If you are a fan of Neil Gaiman's work, then I'm sure you have a well-worn copy of Neverwhere someplace that has been read about a thousand times.
If you haven't, then you should get one, or ask a friend for it as a gift at your next natal holiday or mitzvah.
If you like comic books as an artistic medium, which it most definitely is a most viable and vital example of, then you may be happy to know that the cool label of DC Comics, Vertigo, is currently producing a comic book adaptation of Neverwhere in a nine issue series.
I know that was a hella run-on sentance, and I don't care.
The art fits the mood of the story, even if I'm not crazy about the cover images(with the exception of this one). The interior work is much more in line with what I would expect.
If you'd like a visual alternative to the BBC production, then you could do much worse than checking it out. I've attached the cover shot of issue #1. I hope that I can snag these comics once they're all wrapped up, or maybe grab them as a trade paperback after the fact.
There's a sample of the first few pages yonder...

I hear you. I don't like her look here that much either. She kinda has a Souixie look to her that's not my cup of tea.
I would definitely agree with yout elvish or faerie vibe to her.
I'd like to see a young Claire Forlani, or Mia Kirshner here instead myself. Since neither of them is really that super cute & young anymore, I'd go with Keira Knightley for my current dream casting choice.
I haven't gotten to see the BBC live-action production that I mentioned in the posting, but it's on my list (and I think my wife's too). Since that would be inhabited by native limeys, I'm sure it will come off much more authentic than if Hollywood got involved.
The only good thing that a major film version of that story would entail would be the lure of insanely expensive and cool looking special effects.
I suppose with source material that good, it would be hard for us to mess it up too badly. As long as they kept it away from Michael Bay, or Joel Schumacher, I'm sure we'd be fine...
Terry Gilliam would have to be the obvious choice to be involved. Either that or Tim Burton. (But then Johnny Depp would have to play Richard or the Marquis.)
I am not into comics, but these I would seriously think about purchasing. Though my first choice is to get the DVD.
