Long Distance Runaround
Oy!
I know it's been forever since I put a darn thing on here, and the few people that actually did bother to read here have probably all since scurried on to more cozy nooks in the 'net.
I recently took some time off, and joined Amena in her annual sojourn to the Mary Kay convention. I will say that I went there in support of her, and must have been doing something right this year(I won the husband of the year award for her unit).
I'm not going to sugarcoat this - the trip wasn't great on the surface. Flying gave me a migraine, the days were very structured and didn't leave much time for anything else, I didn't even get that much time with Amena, the food was passable, everything was expensive, and Amena didn't feel well a lot of the time(which always gets me down), the hotel didn't have a pool, it was hot(Dallas in July - yeesh), I didn't rest much at all, and we had delays on our flight home.
I said all of that to get to this - I had a good trip, and I'm glad I went. This was my second time at this seminar, and I want to tell you one thing. Whatever your impression of Mary Kay is, as a brand or a company(unless you love it), is probably pale to the power of pink that it is. I have never seen a group of that many motivated women in my life. They employ more female millionaires than any company in the world. There are everyday women that tell their stories, and then step off the stage into free Cadillacs and receive diamonds and trips around the world.
It may be make-up as a product, but what they're selling is the opportunity for any woman to be independently successful. I've seen the behind-the-scenes in this. I've seen what it takes to make money in it, and I have to tell you that if any woman wants to be her own boss, this is the surest way to get there.
What I brought away from this trip was the fact that I don't know of any company that is able to be #1 in so many categories, and yet still stands by a philosophy that ranks God first, family second, and career third.
I'm not going to put a link to my wife's website so you'll go buy stuff from her, or even put a link to the Mary Kay website. All I'm saying is that if you have any interest, you owe it to yourself to check out the real facts(and I would put you in touch with Amena to answer any of those). More women should be doing this business, and the ones that I know who already do, are having way too much fun!

Wow, so many things to bring a trip down, but you still made it good for you and Amena. That is what really counts.
Sorry she felt bad during the trip, that hurts, but I am so sure she loved the fact that you went with her.
