Dark and Metric

This is so cool!

I know that it's still in it's pre-production, but I found some very cool news of a sequel that I'm actually looking forward to seeing (how often can you say that nowadays?).

It appears that Disney/Henson is going to be making a sequel to The Dark Crystal!!

They are going to use puppets again, and this time they'll be in a CG background world.

To add to the coolness quotient, we get Genndy Tartakovsky directing. For those of you unfamiliar, he's the creator of Samurai Jack & the Clone Wars cartoons. I think that it's an excellent choice, and I can't wait to see what they come up with. I'll be anxiously awaiting early images from this one.

To check out the short article in Variety, give a shout-out to Fizzgig here.

Genndy's been quoted saying some good things already. It definitely sounds like he understands what he's been given. Plus, he was given the reigns on the single most sacred franchises of all geekdom, and he made something that everyone loves.

I wish that this would have been tackled when Master Henson was still around, but that goes for pretty much everything.

I'm concerned that it will be something less than special, but I have faith that they wouldn't go forward unless they knew they could do it justice. They have the same character designer on board too, so that helps me feel a bit better as well...

Heck, with me in charge, we had stuff like that on the main TV's most of the time at "big blue".

It is a fine movie, and while I wish the very best for the sequel, they can't ever take away the wonderment that comes with the first viewing of that film.

She looks good aged like that. I think that if that's really an actual production photo, we're already off to a good start.

All the comments I'm reading about the movie from the people involved are really great. They sound above and beyond the usual hollywood crap (since there are glowing interviews from directors and producers on total junk movies too, like Kicking and Screaming).

I want this to be memorable. I don't often have something this cool to look forward to in the movies...

It just wont be the same without Jim's talents. The Muppetry made that movie awesome.

Vixen - I know it won't be the same, and it's a sad fact that I face with any new Muppet product. As good as they can be, they'll always be staked up against a dreamer and craftsman at the top of his game, and fall short.

The state of movies today make me glad just to see things like this coming out at all. I know it won't be as good as the original, but I think that even if it's close, it will be leaps and bounds above most of what Hollywood is giving us lately...
